The 10 Worst One Piece Side Characters, Ranked – CBR – Comic Book Resources

The vast majority of One Piece’s characters are actually side characters. Most of them have been well-received, but some are simply the worst.
One Piece has been around for more than two decades and has become one of the most successful anime and manga franchises of all time. One Piece's story is vast and incredibly emotional at times, but the characters are what make the series truly special. So far, fans have been introduced to more than 900 unique characters.

Luffy and the Straw Hats are the main characters while Blackbeard and the World Government are the main antagonists, which means that the vast majority of One Piece's characters are technically side characters. Most side characters have been well-received, but there are a few who are disliked because of their designs and personalities or because of the things they've done.
Trebol was one of the Donquixote Pirates' top officers who ate a Devil Fruit that gave him the ability to create and control mucus. This is a disgusting ability, but it fits well with the character, seeing as he is a grotesque and disheveled man.
A lot of fans liked Doflamingo because of his backstory and personality, but he was incredibly cruel and bloodthirsty. Trebol met Doflamingo when the future Warlord was very young, and he's the one who fostered Doflamingo's anger and cruelty. This means that Trebol is ultimately responsible for all of Doflamingo's heinous actions.
Wapol was the main antagonist of the Drum Island Arc, but he's now a side character who managed to get another kingdom thanks to the World Nobles. He ate a Devil Fruit that allows him to eat virtually anything and assume its qualities.

Wapol was a spoiled and corrupt king who took Drum Island's best doctors for himself while banishing or killing the rest so he can be the people's only source of medical care. Before the series began, the Blackbeard Pirates arrived on the island and Wapol abandoned his people to fend for themselves.
Squard is an older pirate who once fought Gol D. Roger. He quickly became one of the series' worst pirates when he betrayed Whitebeard at Marineford. Squard was tricked into believing that Whitebeard was going to betray everyone to rescue Ace, who was revealed to be Roger's son.
He held a great deal of hatred for Roger because the pirate king killed his entire crew, but that does not excuse his actions, especially since Ace never even knew Roger. He critically injured Whitebeard, thus contributing to his death.
Shirahoshi is the mermaid princess of the Ryugu Kingdom, which rules over Fish-Man Island. Like her father, she is exceptionally large. She's the current incarnation of Poseidon, an ancient weapon that's capable of controlling Sea Kings.
Shirahoshi is a fragile and naïve character who's prone to crying whenever she gets upset—and she gets upset quite easily. This trait became annoying pretty quickly. Shirahoshi decided to stop being a crybaby after meeting Luffy, but most fans won't be able to forget so easily.
Charlotte Flampe is Big Mom's 77th child and the Captain of the Big Mom Pirates' special attack unit. She uses a special device that allows her to float like a balloon and her weapon of choice is a blowgun that fires very sharp needles.

She was present during Luffy's fight with Katakuri. She attacked Luffy from the shadows, allowing her oblivious older brother to critically injure the Straw Hat captain. Flampe is fairly sadistic, and she enjoys humiliating people in front of her underlings. She adored Katakuri, but when he revealed his eel-like mouth to her, she began humiliating him as well.
The Whole Cake Island Arc delved into Sanji's backstory, and fans finally met his family—including his father, Judge Vinsmoke. The Vinsmoke family once ruled the North Blue, and Judge's goal is to regain his family's past glory. To do this, he genetically altered his children to turn them into superhumans who cannot feel compassion.
Sanji had not developed the same physical traits as his siblings, and he also grew up to be kind. Judge saw this as a weakness and considered Sanji a failure, which is why he allowed Sanji's siblings to bully him every day. He eventually disowned Sanji, placed him in an iron mask, and threw him into a cell when he was just a child.
Orochi came from a disgraced noble family in Wano and became cruel and greedy because of his poor upbringing. This is the main reason why he rules Wano like a tyrant. He also possesses a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into an eight-headed snake.
Orochi used his deceitful nature to pull off a successful coup that ended with him becoming Shogun. The only reason it was a success is that he allied himself with Kaido. The people of Wano have suffered under his rule for two decades. It is also thanks to him that Oden and Yasuie were killed.
A number of One Piece characters deserve to be defeated, including Akainu. He is the current Fleet Admiral of the Marines, but when he was first introduced, he was still an Admiral. Akainu is known for his ruthless sense of justice, and this belief allows him to kill innocents if needed.
During the war at Marineford, Akainu fought with Ace. When he decided to attack a distracted Luffy to prove a point, Ace jumped in and sacrificed himself to save his little brother. This act solidified Akainu as one of the series' most hated characters.
The Water 7 saga gave fans a detailed glimpse into Nico Robin's tragic backstory, but it also introduced them to Spandam. He's the former chief of CP9, a position he only obtained because of his father. He is by no means strong. In fact, he's weaker than an ordinary Marine.

Spandam is nothing more than a coward deep down, but that hasn't stopped him from being cruel. When Robin was brought to him as a prisoner, he taunted her and physically abused her whenever he could.
For the most part, the Celestial Dragons are despicable human beings who think they're better than everyone else because their ancestors founded the World Government. Saint Charlos shows exactly how terrible these World Nobles are, as he stopped a critically injured man from getting medical attention because the doctors carrying him did not kneel.
Charlos has no problem owning servants who he abuses as he sees fit. He shot Hachi in Saboady Archipeligo because he wanted an octopus servant, and he even tried to make princess Shirahoshi his servant. He does not care who he hurts or kills because his status makes him immune to justice.
